I have been using joes toes felted soles for a few years now and whilst I’m happy with them I decided to use the suede soles instead this time, I love how they look and feel as they will be long lasting, sewing the soles on makes a big difference!
I saw these on a stand at the Wonderwool show, Builth Wales and decided to order myself a pair when I got home. The colour options are fab and the felt is very soft and comfortable, thank you🙏
Previously purchased latex soles, but wanted extra thickness for slippers I was felting as gifts. Ordered different colours and sizes with the thread. Delighted with the quality and delivery. Would highly recommend.
I love these. I've lost count of the number I've made. My husband says they're the best slippers he's ever had. This is his third pair, having worn out the others.
It's the first time I've used the vibram rubber soles - I've added a leather sole before.
Some ideas I've found useful:-
1) I use waxed linen thread for the foundation row - it's much more hard wearing than wool/yarn.
2) Working a half treble before and after the inv dec makes a smoother transition.
3) Working linked trebles for the inv dec makes a more dense fabric (my husband didn't like the spaces).
4) Turning the work after each row gets rid of the torque that comes from working in rounds.
5) Breaking the yarn at the end of each row and starting the next row offset from the end of the last row gets rid of the seam at the back and working in the ends strengthens the heel.
Would have appreciated knowing the length of the thread before purchase and maybe some instructions on suggested sewing methods. I chose a running stitch method I saw on YouTube but had lots of thread left so now left wondering if I might have had enough thread for a more criss cross method that wouldn't have left such a sticky-out edge round the sole, with risk of tripping.
