These little boots are quite simple to make. Joe’s Toes thick felt soles are pre-punched so you can crochet directly into the sole. Additional soles can be purchased separately. The pattern for our knitted baby crossover style can be found here.

You will need:

4.5mm crochet hook

Smaller (up to 3mm) crochet hook (for foundation round)

22g (22m) of yarn (Aran or Worsted weight)

Joe’s Toes pre-punched slipper sole pack

These requirements are based on a gauge of 16tr and 8 rows to a 10cm (4”) square using the 4.5mm hook.  If your square is smaller, use a larger hook; if your square is larger, use a smaller hook.

Abbreviations (This pattern uses U.K. crochet terms throughout):

ch        chain

dc        double crochet

sl st      slip stitch

st(s)     stitch(es)

tr          treble crochet

tr2tog   treble crochet 2 stitches together

yo        yarn over

Instructions:

Foundation round: Using smaller hook, work directly into the sole. Start at the heel, with the smoother side of the felt facing down. Ch once into each hole in the sole in turn. When you are back where you started un-pick the initial ch and loop it through the last ch to join as shown.

I've made a video to show this stage.

First round: Using larger hook, turn the sole over and ch r2 (counts as first t). Work one tr into each st around, join with sl st to 2nd ch.  (Notes: You can use the smaller hook if it’s easier but work loosely to avoid too much curl on the sole. A little curve, like the bottom of your foot, is OK. )

Second round (start of toe shaping): ch 2 (counts as 1st tr), then tr Work in tr until 5 (5, 7) sts from the centre front, tr2tog 5 (5, 7) times, tr to end, join with sl st.

Third round: ch 2 (counts as 1st tr), then tr work in tr until 5 (5, 7) sts from the centre front, tr2tog 5 (5, 7) times, tr to end, join with sl st.

Fourth round: ch 2 (counts as 1st tr), then work in tr until 3 (3, 5) stitches from the centre front, tr2tog 3 (3, 5) times, tr to end, join with sl st.

Fifth round (Dipped front shaping):  Work in tr until 3 sts from the centre front, tr3 into next st, sk 2 sts, sl st into next st (at the centre front), sk 2 sts, tr3 into next st, tr to end, join with sl st.

Back heel loop (optional):  With the outside of the heel facing you, sl 1 st to the left of the centre back, ch 7, turn,  sl st to the st which is 1 st to the other side of the centre back, turn, 9 dc over the chain to arrive back at your starting point, sl st to the base of ch. Finish off.
